Edited 4 years agoWhat an amazing piece of art. Happy 19 year birthday to this alum! It rivals The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place in my opinion....Greet Death and A Poor Man's Memory are such powerful pieces of music. The rest of the tracks on this record are fantastic as well. Yasmin was my alarm wake up song at 6 AM for many years. Love this album, love this band, love all of you discogers.

While the EITS release that came after this was the real push away from the apocalyptic pessimism in post rock, this one I believe is the greater album. This slew of songs combines the mid-to-late 90's post rock trend of pessimism with the optimism that EITS would later be known for. It's a combination that maybe exists in one or two GY!BE or Mogwai songs, but to have a whole album like that was a revelation.

My copy and my buddies copy were unplayable.. huge amounts of digital sounding distortion/buzzing throughout.

Edited 14 years agoTo me, this is THE EITS album to get, the album that pretty much perfected their sound. It was one of the first bands of this type (post-rock, if you will) that was obviously very much influenced by Godspeed You Black Emperor. Compared to GYBE, EITS has somewhat more "american" sound to them, and maybe in a sense more defined and positive vibe. I view GYBE as the veterans (and possibly even the inventors of the style), but when it comes to choosing between "Skinny Fists" and this album, I'd go with this.
This is a timeless, inspired, and psychedelic piece of music. I think that their later creations (as good as they are) didn't catch the depth and the feeling of this. As I said, timeless. 5/5.
