Edited 9 days agoThe recording of the concert in the film A joyful noise, which besides it being excellent, makes it essential. The booklet is possibly the best to accompany a Ra release.
Montreux is still my go to live for the atmosphere but this is one of the best of many live albums. From the period.
Black vinyl, how cool, -
Edited 5 months agoGreat sound quality and a nice collection of tunes - a real overview of the many styles Sun Ra and the Arkestra could perform. You can hear the big band style of "Big John's Special" immediately followed by the near-ambient "Lights On A Satellite." I'm not a Sun Ra completest by any means, but glad I picked this one up.

This thing is a time in beauty and splendid overall. Surprisingly good recording; I am unsure at this point whether these are from the original tapes having not gone through the entire package yet. Regardless, enthusiastic 👍

Excellent dead quiet pressing with surprisingly high quality recordings of the show. My only gripe with the entire release is D1's intro being cut, it's one of Sun Ra's most prolifically released standards and it always starts with him solo on the keys. Aside from that definitely another great Ra release to add to the arsenal.
