Funny that the best Sunn)))O album is the one they only appear as a nominal player bringing the waves. Yeah they created the waves here. But it was Stapleton the one who created something else with it. Something quite frankly otherworldly and fair example of his master ability for drone music. In fact Sunn)))O recognized this by releasing it as a collaboration instead of a mere remix accompanying a re-release.
Stapleton is pure magic, real magic, he disimboweled and dissected Sunn)))O seminal drone album and structured this masterpiece. Simply put, Stapleton brought drone metal into quite another dimension, one of cosmic proportions and multiple levels. Enriched the terraqueous minimalism of guitar drone and created an universe with/within each chord, pitch, timbre and tone. Losing listeners mind in the meanders of this multi harmonic variation.
NWW took mere waves and made them more than what they just are. The many faces of a decomposed and deconstructed wave. The many forms of matter. Dark drone music brought to the very limit. It's not just a guitar anymore. It's the sound of cosmos and the voices of God.
Stapleton is the master here. He is the demigod of drone. Sunn)))O presented the sacrifice. -
