Notes
An odd duck in Capitol's numbering schemes; rather than V-8567, it's just 8567, as printed on the sleeve, label, and etched in the runout.
The sleeve and label disagree on the title of B1 (Edited Version vs Single Version), and the A-side is listed with no mix title.

Edited one month agoRevisiting this one more than a decade letter to hear Secret Oktober again, one of my favorite B-sides. The DD reissues released in the 21st century are widely acknowledged to be brickwalled, and so I was hoping that this original pressing would have a better dynamic range and sound better.
On this US 12-inch single, I get a DR10. The record is cut hot, and there is sibilance. Clarity is lacking.
But I get a DR8 on the 2010 deluxe reissue of the studio album, and the same value for the 2003 singles box. Despite scoring worse on that metric (which of course is NOT the be-all end-all), I have to it I prefer the later remasters for their clarity, at least for this track.
Maybe it's my setup, but the result was surprising. I'd be interested to hear a copy that is better than VG+, and a different cut, 45 rpm, etc. The UK single might be worth trying. ittedly, this is all angels on the head of a pin. -
