Foul Play – Vol III (Remixes)

The Tango Remix is a monster, infact this is a very special 10" and if you look in the Run Out Grooves of the 2003 Repress Simon scribes a comment and he is right, he was right then and he's still right today..

Going against the majority of reviews here, the Tango remix isn't for me... The Foul Play remix is a nice piece of 'Diet Jungle'. Light + rolling, this mix makes full use of the vocal sample from Sahara's 'Love So Fine' from 1985.

I used to listen to London's Kool FM 94.5 regularly and this was battered on the station, usually to start off a show/set.

Starts off slowly and then gradually builds into a roller with catchy synths, the vocal sample and chords are key combined with a few bridges & breaks.

Didn't get a huge amount of exposure from the DJ's back in '93, but it's a decent 10" to own - Foul Play were the bosses back then.

showing nothing but all love to the foul play side of things... i think its too damn wicked... tango side is cool to, very nice an dark... the foul play side is just ecstatic w out gettin corny... very cool and unique trake ~*~

Was there a dubplate release of this cause mine has no sticker in centre just plain black??

Tango's remix is frankly not just the best version of the tune, its a monstrously great tune and is simply not given the play it deserves. Jamie is one of the most talented producers on the underground breakbeat scene, but has just got on with being that, not an ego.

Both tracks work exceptionally well in different ways to each other, but contributing to the greater overall accomplishment of this record, further displaying Moving Shadow as a historically top tier label well into ascension, artistically and technically, at the time of this release.

Highlight of this 2 sider is Tango's remix,no question..I would go as far as to say this was the best remix he ever made,and certainly 'tops' the Foul Play remix.

Tango's remix is, quite possibly, one of the sole breakbeat hardcore records that isn't insurmountably indigestibly happy yet not falling into the darkside ilk of things. Even the repeated vocal drop towards the end reaks of poignancy, desolation and a desire to recover what the rave scene was about before the chemicals accelerated to detrimental levels, that being emotionalism, and a feeling of unity. Like other hardcore records of the time, there's a psychedelic twist, but it is considerably curtailed.

The Foul Play remix, comparable to the original is a pseudo-happy hardcore creation, which I have no desire to talk about. Those who like Finest Illusion will dig this, I'm sure; yet, it really isn't my thing.

The Tango side of this is outstandingly good. A dark and heavy take on the original with a relentless break, well placed stabs and the heaviest bass synth. The vocal drop near the end of the track is a surprise and well worth the wait, excellent timing and restraint. Superb. The Foul play side is ok, again containing a darker edge, but not a patch on the flip side.
