Boards Of Canada – Geogaddi

Geogaddi is the middle child that has some experienced some shit. I mean, for god sakes, they saw drones.

geogaddi is a tremendous piece of art from beginning 'till end. when you put on your headphones set and close your eyes, within the first track "ready lets go" you're byuing a ticket in a real strange, multilayered, minimalistic, accurately mathematically adjusted, synaesthetic, multidimensional experience. and it's sound is soo thick and dense, you're actually getting lost in it, without losing it's track (it's a great dissonance trick in geogaddi's minimalistic multilayering), you can actually listen to it about hundred times and each time you'll find something new, it has millions of details (especially try different kinds of headphones set - it will give you differrent kinds of access to layers' details).. it's like out of this world, it's even hard to put in words... like a soundbook, it uses your imagination to actually draw those sounds in mind, it's synaesthetic as hell. outstanding record. everyone who's deep into music should have that record on hands.

but, on the side, i actually owe this japanese release (bought it only because of bonus track), and, it's features are actually crappy. a part of front cover's original image is cutten and zoomed (you can't recognize that there's a man in a caleidoscope, you can't see his head), and looks really low-quality (like crappy lo-res jpg image), and therefore it doesn't fit in full caleidoscope picture sitting behing the disc (it's no big deal 'cause obi strip hides it, but anyway it's worth mentioning), and, what pissed me off most, the artwork in the booklet is not complete, it actually lacks HALF (i counted) original pictures (but has japanese bio of BoC, which you probably can't read)... so, if you're really a hardcore BoC fan, you can buy it for a bonus track (which fits album nicely and gives it more positive aftertaste), but this release itself is really not worth money asked for it. peace!

This is one of the most powerful albums one could stumble upon. I'm always telling my friends (over the 'net) about tracks on this album as I listen to it, and am dismayed at my inability to describe what I'm feeling. The feelings I get from Geogaddi are often nostalgic, yearning, and some other emotions that have yet to be named.

Have you ever been camping completely in the wilderness, and been woken up early in the morning by voices outside your tent? Have you noticed how the voices sound when you're in that half-awake state? That's the sort of state that is best to be in when listening to Geogaddi. Half-asleep with enhanced dream perception, that is.

By the way, Geogaddi is definitely incomplete without the last track. I can't imagine listening to it without From One Source All Things Depend. Perhaps I was spoiled, but it just seems perfectly-placed. The other Geogaddi releases seem naked without it.
