I really think I got lucky on this one. Found in the wild in Belmar, NJ, paid $30 for it. Verified the runout so I know what I have. One round on the Spin Clean and this record is near pristine. I am extremely impressed with whomever was the previous owner. This thing is shiny. Soundwise, it's one of the best sounding records in my collection. Nice instrument isolation, wide soundstage. A good set of headphones (AKG K702 in my case) and you're blasting off to the Mothership.

Edited 3 months agoMOTHERSHIP CONNECTION is like the Sgt. Pepper of funk. This 1975 Terre Haute pressing is impressive. Ample low end, crisp up top, with a vibrant, explosive soundstage. My copy has a single jump skip about halfway through A1, otherwise it's nice and clean with occasional light surface noise.

Coming from having the 2015 lenticular cover pressing to now owning a copy of the Terre Haute 1st pressing, I originally thought this sounded a bit lifeless, because the 2015 had a bit more boost in all parts of the EQ, most notably in the bass.
That is, until I adjusted my ears a little and cranked the volume up on the OG pressing a bit.
There’s a reason why a lot of people are still wanting clean copies of this pressing, because this pressing BREATHES in clarity and separation. The 2015 is compressed a bit in a way that makes everything sound boosted, but here you can pinpoint your ears on every instrument in its place. A clean copy of this will make it much more enjoyable to crank up, and when doing so, you really hear just how much the OG press shines compared to every other pressing after the 70’s. -
Was thrilled to find a 1st pressing in the store and snatched it up. Unfortunately, too many loop skips for my comfort and I'm having to give up the funk. Still have the CD of this release which cranks up loud.
despite my damage, the parts that play well are strong and thumpasorus-y.
3.5 stars for a classic OG P-funk release. -

Edited one year agoI have a copy that appears to be Terre Haute on Side 1, Santa Maria on Side 2. Not seeing this entry, unless I'm mistaken?

Starchild Zapp July 22,2019 : this album is one of the motherlode's of funk music, this is a landmark album for p-funk, it change the world and face and sound of funk music as we know today, p-funk took funk to a level nobody cant fuck with period, and its still kicking ass to this date, the only group that can go toe to toe with them is: earth, wind and fire, with help of one William Bootsy Collins on this and many other p-funk albums to follow after, p-funk is in a league of there own and history they have laid down speaks volumes, you will never ever see anything like this world again, may in the next world, this album is a must have, George retiring at the end of this year and Bootsy having to stop touring at the beginning of this year, to all go and see them while you can and enjoy the real funk because there's only one P-FUNK , P.S. happy birthday George, promise to funk, promise to keepth the funk, the hold funk nothin' but the FUNK, the P that is!!!!
