The mass of the record is excellent, the recording quality is good, the only significant note is that the rhythm section sounds very weak, quiet and not expressive

Clearly done from hi res audio file but it is nice sound, cover is nicely done. Keeping this in my collection.

Just listened to this funky record this morning and I was positively suprised. Donald Byrd is on fire with this record. It's truly a Mizell production from beginning till the end, which is for most of us a thing they like or not. But still a great record if you like the other Mizell produced records with Byrd like Blackbyrd and Places and Spaces. The mastering is not top tier but still very good. I enjoyed listening to it. Music on Vinyl didn't disappoint with this release!

Edited 2 years agoSearching for this album for some time, I was hoping Blue Note would release this in either their Classic Vinyl or Tone Poet Series. Was (positevily) surprised seeing this coming out on Music On Vinyl (with a gatefold cover). Yes, it's based on a digital file, but since I am not an audiophile, this was not a show-stopper for me to get this. It sounds great and in no way compressed. Would be interesting comparing it to an original BN-release though.
The only remark I have is that the blue colour of the labels is a bit off - and does not really match the colour of the blue "black B" BN-labels. -
I know it’s not triple A, but it sounds better than a lot of the records in my collection. I’ve never owned this on vinyl so I have nothing else to compare it to other than streaming. I’m glad it’s gatefold but I also hate the orientation. I would dock it a half star if I could, but since it’s not an option I’ll round up.

From MoV:
"Good day KuleeBaba,
Thanks for your mail.
We received and used high res audio files (96 KHZ / 24 BIT) of the original masters.
With Kind Regards,
Mark Klinkhamer" -
If you love this album then you might have waited for a good reissue of this (sorry but the Scorpio/Rainbo pressed version is a disaster). That it fell to MOV to reissue it is a god send.... usual traits apply here.... flat, quiet and great sounding. Decent gatefold. My only gripe is the way the sleeve is oriented but perhaps this is the way its meant to be (the BN logo suggests otherwise lol)
