My copy of this beautiful LP has XSM116313-2D COLUMBIA NY etched and written into the runout. I originally thought it was either a 76 or 77 US pressing, but the closest I can find ends with 1A, or 1D. There is nothing listed with 2D, or Columbia NY. I'd love to know what this is. -
Edited 4 years agoQuintessential bop statement! Few records, apart from select Blue Note releases, encapsulate so compellingly the jazz ethos. Present are the Miles regulars of the era (a star-studded array of musical talent) with the addition of Cannonball seemingly spurring them on to great heights. There's not a weak moment on this record mainly because Miles doesn't resort to including a blues number or a ballad. These are eccentric, intricate, (for the most part) uptempo melodies that swing. Those only familiar with Miles Davis' work from the late 60s and 70s don't know what they're missing.
