Great mastering, minor surface noise, but considering XL quality control this is more than expected, I can say that it sounds like and audiophile pressing, beautiful soundstage and not compressed at all, my best Radiohead pressing -
Edited 2 years agoCan anyone input on how the mastering sounds for this particular issue?
EDIT: Got impatient of waiting months for someone to reply. Just got mine in the mail today and played it. I've never owned nor heard the Optimal or Rainbo presses to compare, but judging by the QC issues with both presses, my copy plays relatively flat, centred, and quiet - no need for any wet cleans out of the packaging.
Judging by the runouts, my guess is that this has identical mastering to either of the two aforementioned vinyl issues. I wouldn't expect anything wildly different sound-wise since this looks to be a release that was only "distributed and marketed" for the Japanese market and not specifically "remastered" for the Japanese market. It definitely helps that the quietness of the pressing gives it a run for its money as an "audiophile-approved" pressing, although I have noticed there is some top-end compression on Daydreaming and The Numbers.
TL;DR: If you're paying up for this release, you're basically getting the normal white vinyl issue with an additional obi strip and a statistically greater chance of a clean-sounding pressing. -
Received mine today, looks like the runouts match that of the Optimal pressing, even down to the sticker over the barcode. Sounds great, though.
