Edited 10 months agoWhat a superb piece from start to finish, bringing together all the best elements of the original mix, the Sex Mix, the New York mix, Carnage, Annihilation and finishing off with a condensed version of War...and all without missing a pulse, seamlessly patchworked, in case you're up dancing or at very least you're in the mood to headnod for forty minutes without disruption. Love it.
Typical GZ Media. I soaked the disc in isopropyl alcohol and distilled water then let it dry before playing. It played beautifully having been cleaned. Even from sealed and brand new, though, there's a brief cluster of small scratches, caused by some idiot in the factory maybe, producing a regular click (mercifully, not during the music, but while Paul Morley's talking). Also, unlike all the original 12" singles I have, it feels like a modern day engineer has applied a modern day mastering compression to it. So the whole thing is a tad quieter. I had to keep going back to tweek up the volume a bit.
Despite GZ Media's shortcomings in their work, this is ESSENTIAL to the collector who's been following and listening to this continuing ZTT saga since the start. One little thing, dropped in for the eagle-eared, there's one utterance from Grace Jones ("slaaaaaaave") during Relax which I don't from an earlier mix. Indeed didn't that come out 1985? So that was sneaky. Someone might correct me but I felt that was new. -
I bought a copy on a very famous web store.
Same barcode etc. But no RSD sticker and made in the Czech Republic.
A bootleg ? A reissue ?
Anyway, I returned it . -
Edited 2 years agoIt’s a shame that it doesn’t include the full length hard to find/mostly mislabeled/cut at the wrong speed Sex Mix but still great to have this. We definitely need Altered Reels 2. Some of the Welcome To The Pleasuredome mixes are amazing.
-
Hopefully we will get a 'Altered Reels 2' with The Power of Love & Welcome to the Pleasuredome on each side? I would LOVE that :P I got the original tapes for all 4 to ;)
-
What a rare treat to get a perfectly flat record.
Sound is as good as could be expected, not quite sonically the incredible experience that the original album/mix gave us. It's overall a bit thin and trebly. You'll need to adjust the EQ with this one.

Edited 3 years agoThe original photo used for the front of this sleeve had Brian holding a toy gun in his left hand that he is resting on his knee. This has been airbrushed out for the sleeve of this release. With plenty of colour on this picture used for the sleeve, I feel it did not need the adding of the 'Frankie Man' symbol in the centre. Who is the young boy in the picture? Is it the same young lad pictured with Paul on the picture Disc of Two Tribes from 1984? I do like the picture used but to me it's more of a Pleasuredome related picture than Relax or Two Tribes. UMC now own the back catalogue of Frankie so that is probably why there is no mention of ZTT on this release. Frankie Say.........Give us more reissues like this!

Fantastic pressing on super thick vinyl. Very little noise, pops or clicks using an SL1200 and an Ortofon cartridge. The sound quality is far superior to the original cassette releases. Great package overall and a must for any FGTH fan.

Need to release '' welcome to the hippodrome '' on vinyl, grand uncle re fondly seeing a magazine add in Canada,he believes it might possibly be a live album from England
-
Anybody else's copy full of scratches and pops? I can see little marks all over the first side like somebody used an etching tool in various places. No part of the audio escapes it. Side B seems to be fine. The whole LP was covered in vinyl dust, too, and required a good wet cleaning.
-
This is fun! Especially Side Two. The record sounds great, given that you clean it immediately after you pull it out from the paper sleeve before you play it.
