EuripidesA - below - is right, it sounds shocking. My copy did, however, sound 90% better after a couple of wet cleans and play through's. Obviously not ideal.

This is the worst pressing in my collection. It makes me wanna sell everything and stream. Ffs, just test one copy in the run before you put it on sale.

I'm not a fan of this band, but I liked this album with its garage performance. The album is on two vinyl discs. The disks are flat with a slight center offset. The mass is quiet, clicks are rare. Priority in sound to low frequencies. The stage is wide, the balance is even. The envelope (sleeve) is very dense, the colors are bright, but the picture itself is blurred. The inner envelopes are made of thick paper, black with a cutout for an apple, without an antistatic liner. In general, the cover, discs and content are good: 4 out of 5.

Edited 3 years agoA new US repress was released March 25, 2022. And, the barcode is the same as this Euro one from 2021...not the same as the last US pressing from 2016 which was pressed at United Records Pressing in Nashville.

Edited 3 years agoI just found this in a local record store in the US. This is one of my all time favorite albums, and therefore I own this version, the original 2005 US promo, the 2015 RSD reissue, and the 2016 standard black vinyl reissue. This new one is the best one of the bunch. They all beat the CD (except the 05 promo - woof!), but I will be listening to this as my preferred version from here on out. This is a brand new cut, with different run-outs than the '15 and '16 versions. Strangely, it is cut by Wes Garland, but pressed at Third Man Pressing. I thought with it being pressed at TMP, Bill Skibbe would be the guy...anyways, onto the review. (Edit: It was pressed at Pallas; perhaps it was plated at TMP? Does WG work for TMP now? Not sure!)
It is a little bit more transparent than the previous reissues, with a rounder low end and more detail in things like Jack's voice. Meg's kit is a little more open as well. The cymbals in "My Doorbell" shimmer, and Jack's voice leaps out of the speakers. The heavy guitars in "Blue Orchid" are just as aggressive sounding, but not as harsh. Marimba work is smooth, and acoustic guitars are just jangly enough, and more detailed on this copy than the others. However, I must stress that it is not a night-and-day difference, so if you aren't a totally insane WS fan like me, the 2016 standard black copy may serve you just fine.
One of the best parts about the new reissue is that it is far-and-away the quietest copy of the batch. After multiple wet cleanings, I still cannot get all of the noise off the older ones. One trip on the wet/vac cleaner, and this sucker is pitch black quiet. It really helps improve the sonic details of the acoustic guitars on tracks like "As Ugly as I Seem," and "Little Ghost," or even the bells on "Red Rain."
The colors on the jacket really pop, and it looks way better than the soft touch reissues from '15 and '16. The red is beautiful and rich, and Jack 'n' Meg look stunning as well. It is just as good quality as the famous Stoughton tip-on jackets. Great stuff!
If you can find this for a decent price in your local shop, go for it, you will not be disappointed (except for the not so great standard inner sleeves). -
