Flat, quiet, but still a GZ press. IGD on tracks such as Let It Be, Maggie Mae, Long And Winding Road, Get Back, and I Me Mine. Baffled how the sound quality drops by track 4, it’s not even like the inner grooves
-
One of the worst sounding records ive listened to i mean it starts good two of us to across the universe sounds good enough but when it hits let it be ughh it sounds so distorted and not to mention long and winding road sounding like garbage and it being super distorted dont buy this just listen to this mix digitally it sounds great digitally

Just listened to this again with a bit more of a critical ear. First off, it’s got a good warp which gives the stylus a good bounce. Hearing a lot of the inner groove distortion reported by others. Also a bit of non fill starting half way through side A. Kind of a bummer; it’s giving super loud pops and crackle. Side B is cleaner but still pretty hot. Oh well…

Edited one year agoLove this Giles Martin mix. I’m a fan especially of the mix on Across the Universe compared to the older one IMO. It just sounds clearer and there isn’t as much of that filter type effect on top of the whole track compared to the older one. It did have some groove distortion on the Long and Winding Road most noticeable on Paul’s vocals on the last “lead me your door”. Overall nice pressing tho.

Sounds like my copy suffers from non fill on the inner tracks. A shame because the mastering is so well done.

Most all the Giles Martin mixes sound fantastic and im using a tube phono pre-amp and sounds amazing to my ears

Side a is just dandy to my ear as played on my system. Side b though has problems beginning with the long and winding road. The spector wall of sound sounds more like a wall of distortion and I mean it's bad. It continues to the end of the record when about 20 seconds before the run out it sounds as if there is a large scuff every revolution. To the eye there is no Mar on the media. So it must be manufacturing. Overall I'm disappointed with it.
-
I assume all my complaints on this remaster are due to the source material, but I feel like there is a lot of clipping in the mix or master, very bass heavy and noticeable distortion on some of the vocals.
