Seems I was right and wrong. It did get into the Top 20 but as late as April 1974.Why it only hit the charts, and presumably was only released as a single,as late as that when the actual track and album it came from were from around 6 months earlier is very
strange. Also the fact that the single has 1973 on it.Possibly a delay on actual release after the initial pressing??My memory is not totally clear but it is over 45 years ago-unbelievable.I can still see PG pushing his imaginary lawnmower on stage as if it was NOT 45 years ago. -
Looking at the history of this single it is deemed to be released in 1974,though the single says 1973.It would not take a great deal of research to check this properly but it very much surprises me that this single is reckoned to have come out in 1974 when copyright together with release of Selling England was obviously back in 1973.And that tour which I quite well was back in September/October 1973.And I IKWIL was ,i thought, already well known as a track that had already been,or was to be,released as a single.Indeed I it sold quite well as a single charting in the lower reaches of the top 20.And I would be surprised that they would release the single at least 3/4 months after the album had come out. These were the days when you were already onto the next album very soon, and The Lamb and the singles from it were already on the way later in 1974.Anyway I am doing this purely on memory-it only needs someone to check the music papers/charts after Selling England was released but I would be very surprised if it was NOT 1973 but 1974??
