Edited one month agoJust received this. Nearly identical thoughts with my "Dire Straits" SYEOR review. Copy acquired in Apr 2025 by Amazon.ca. My copy does NOT come with a SYEOR sticker. It is a good and relatively quiet pressing but not a great one. While the cut by Bernie Grudman is great, the pressing could be better. Minus one star for the cheap matte print quality, which on my copy is "Printed in Canada". Overall very good but not great, but it's also affordable so...

Edited 5 months agoNot the greatest. It doesn't use the same metalwork as the 2009/2014 press and sounds a bit strange in comparison. The best way I can describe it is dull and sharp at the same time. The MoFi is pretty good and definitely better than this but for the best look for an original UK or the 2009.

The sound quality on this is superior to my original Los Angeles pressing. The sound is more full, the vocals are more forward in the mix, and it makes for a better listening experience. I'm glad I took a chance on this reissue.

Edited one year agoQuite enjoyable pressing. It sounds very good through my slightly warmish system (maybe it can sound a tad bit thin/strident on some brighter systems). Noticeable amount of surface noise on side A, but no major clicks or pops. Side B sounds pretty clean. I'm satisfied with my copy overall. 4/5

This reissue is perfect. The jacket could be of better quality and the inner sleeve is hard paper (ouch says the vinyl). But the pressing and sound quality is magnificent!

Best tracks on the record are Single Handed Sailor, Portobello Belle, Where’d You Think You’re Going, and Follow Me Home.
Overall, the A side is great on this one. But I have to say the first two songs (lady writer and angel of mercy) on B side are way off - Withers’ drums are far too quiet while the vocals & lead guitar are given all the room. If that’s what you’re looking for however, you’d enjoy this one. Apart from those two songs, the rest of the songs are perfect sounding.
The LP is very quiet except for a few spots during News (Side A, Track 2) and Single Handed Sailor (SBT4). -
This is a pretty good pressing. Limited pops and clicks except for the runouts and just a touch of surface noise in one or two spots. Fairly dynamic and a decent performance from Mark and the gang. Overall an enjoyable album.

Saw these reissues at my usual brick and mortar. I guess the price is OK but the scans are so terrible I said no way. Maybe the records are ok? I'll continue with filling in my collection of the mofis and then maybe pick up what isn't on mofi (the last record).
