Quite a challenge to combine two very different flavors on this! I may be in the minority of people who actually love both versions! Shouldn't be your first Ornette, but truthfully, if you like either era, this is worth picking up!

I found an original copy of this still sealed and unopened a couple of years ago in Toronto ! The gatefold was practically glued together tho after all those years in storage.
Got to say that the quartet sounds better than ever here ! Just so much energy and enthusiasm. I could never really get into the Prime Time side though. Seems too gimmicky. -
The hype for the reunion of the classic quartet is what sold the project, very much a double album of two two halves : acoustic and electric. Ornette and the original quartet are the better half to Prime Time, several silly 1980's sound effect reverb, echo, gated snare, digital syth wash makes PT side dated. Ornette is still top notch as a jazz composer many of the melodies sound like an instant classic,
