Back in junior high, my best friend's father had this triple record set in his collection, and was kind enough to loan it to me. I'd recently learned that Smokey wrote "My Guy" for Mary Wells and "My Girl" for The Temptations, and that blew my teenybopper mind. I knew a few Miracles songs, but I wanted to hear some more. I played the hell out of this compilation for a week or so before returning it, and I've been a Smokey fan ever since. This is a great listen from start to finish, 41 songs, one hit after another, and one reminder after another that Smokey Robinson was one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century. This pressing has been sured by more recent compilations with improved fidelity, but it's still a fine sounding collection, although a few of the earliest songs on side one sound quite primitive. My copy is in really nice shape, playing clean and quiet, with hardly any surface noise and zero skips.
