Crazy mysterious record. I wonder what album it would be and what cover it would have weren't it not a library record. Eclectic and serene. I love it. Of course some track way more than others. Not every track is a winner. But very recommended nonetheless.

"Contemporary Pastoral And Ethnic Sounds" is a mighty fine and varied collection of, well, pastoral and ethnic sounds. The LP opens with a warm cascade of zither and glittering synthesizers, giving it a real Laraaji vibe, and continues with "Fairy Tale", consisting of a minimalistic drum machine pattern, an axatse type shaker, some kind of string instrument sounding like a cross between a ngoni and a mbira, and flute treated with some murky delay, reminding me in parts of Kraftwerk's "Klingklang" from their second LP.
"Veridian Song" is probably my favourite on the album, a melodic track that sounds a bit like Mani Neumeier playing with Vangelis, circa 1973. "Strange Morning" is a fabulous mood piece of bird song, water sounds, mysterious flute and synthesizers, while "Baja Song" is another more melodic offering with a sitar-sounding string instrument, fat synth bass, that ever-present flute, mbira and even some faint vocals.
"Mridamgam Song" is an Indian percussion/synth sequencer jam, again reminding me of Kraftwerk and the track "Kristallo" from the "Ralf & Florian" LP. "Rocks" is the only track featuring a "regular" drum kit, and is a repetitive Klaus Weiss type funk workout, featuring fat Carpenteresque bass stabs, loads of percussion and echoed piano notes.
All in all, a really nice and well produced collection of sounds, definitely worth your time.
