The purple vinyl is the KC-600 compound that A&M was using on some of their high profile releases at the time.

Looks like a completely normal black record until you hold it up to the light, and then... it's definitely dark purple! How cool is that?

This album is...interesting. It has some of Joe's best songs and arrangements. It also contains some of the cheeiest songs ever penned by Jackson or any other artist for that matter. You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want), Go For It, and Happy Ending, are just, well, pure schmaltz. Case in point, this lyric from Go For It,
"Everybody's wasting time.
Everybody stands in line.
Think of "Babe Ruth"
And you think of hot dogs and beer
But if he can hit a home run, so can you,
And your weight is just nowhere near.
Am I making myself quite clear?"
