Edited one year agoI like classic Beatles. I like obscure Beatles. I like pretty Beatles, ugly Beatles, busy Beatles, lazy Beatles, quiet Beatles, noisy Beatles, multi-tracked Beatles, one-take Beatles....AND with the exception of Ringo (sorry), I like ALL of each Beatle's records, without the other three, up to 1979.
THIS one though...for a start, it was overshadowed by hundreds of other things going on in one of the greatest years in pop music, 1979. A whole WAVE of it, a NEW WAVE in fact. Macca & Co. tried to be a part of it here but the result was not only well below par for him it was below par in comparison to most music going on that year. And why? Well. It's ordinary music. Very ordinary. S'alright, no more than that....from one of the greatest recording artists of all time. I keep my copy but really it's just a gap-filler in the collection.
The quality of the pressing is as expected. Uk first press, can't go wrong. The sound is full, robust, warm but h'mmm sorry, the top end, for a 1979 album, is dull. Not a pressing fault. It's the EQ. Possibly the worst sounding Wings album from an engineering or mastering point of view. Sorry, everyone...but someone needs to warn people. Don't start here to see what Paul McCartney can do! -
This is the first uk pressing and it sounds really fantastic ! Full sound with great bass and dynamics - old Siam sir is fabulous on that lp !

i wanted to chime in about this wings album too. i've checked the reviews on this album on and off, and suddenly there are reviews on here which are positive. i completely agree. i've been somewhat daunted about making a comment, because 'streetmouse' is always so eloquent in her reviews. but this is also my favorite wings album by far. i'm coming from a progressive background here, and i think this album is the most progressive album wings ever did. i always enjoy listening to it, and there's really only one song i dislike ("again and again and again.") to me, when i listen to other wings albums, they pale in comparison to this, with the exception of side one of 'band on the run.' after this album, my next favorite is 'london town.' those are the only two albums that did not get a deluxe reissue treatment too. to me, that s my opinion! if i were to say that this album is like the 'abbey road' of the beatles, i'd get crucified perhaps. and of course, 'abbey road' is in a completely different league. of course. but that's what this album reminds me of with wings. thanks to those who posted their of this fine album.
