I have an original UK pressing from 1986 and it sounds MUCH better than this repress. Definitely stick with the original pressings. Also, the HDCD from Japan is great. This album has a lot of very ambient music on it, so unless you have pristine vinyl, you might be better off with the HDCD (no crackling or popping noises are a relief with this kind of music) !

The vinyl gatefold is rather tight for storing the records in both the poly/paper inner and picture inner, so I've kept the poly/paper inners for other records in need. A simple design detail overlooked at the early stages - shame. The sleeve does look nice but it's crying out for some lovely calligraphy.

Edited one year agoThis remaster sounds awful. The track Tarantula in particular has frequencies that are cut off, so when the singers try and reach for the high notes, they are not audible and end up sounding distorted and compressed. Only great thing about the remaster is the packaging. It's a beautiful gatefold. Otherwise, stick to an original pressing. Or just get it on CD (my personal preference for this album).

Edited 3 years agoSuch a wonderful album. Delighted to see that MPO have done a superb job with the pressing on this release https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/This-Mortal-Coil-Filigree-Shadow/release/12870518

Out of three TMC albums, this one was my favorite. I think 4AD, in general, does solid reissues, and this album is no exception. Glad I picked it up for old time's sake.
