The vinyl itself is fairly quiet as far as pops, clicks, any sort of background noise. I don’t think that these recordings were originally made with high Fidelity recording equipment. So I don’t expect a super hi-fi sound from this record. That being said, it sounds very good. The vocals are right up on top and you can hear all of the instrumentation really well. The colored vinyl looks very nice and is nice and heavy. The packaging with the matte finish and the included booklet is also pretty nice. And besides that it is a killer album.

Had never heard of Ayalew Mesfin before this VMP club release. Pretty sure that I would probably never had heard of him where it not for trusting their choice in Record of the month. This is incredible music. Funky as hell - but from a different shade than Fela Kuti's work. Very cool and hypnotising. Great bass and brass/wood work. There is a massive booklet that tells Ayalew's story. What a legend. Pick this up if you get a chance. -
Please note that the 11” x 11” 16 page book is indeed the same as is included in https://discogs.sitiosdesbloqueados.info/release/16005222-Ayalew-Mesfin-Che-Belew-March-Forward -- different cover, matte paper instead of glossy, but the exact same content. -
This extensive collection makes me drool for the six or seven other original EPs by Mesfin on the Kaifa label which do not appear on it at all!

Edited 7 years agoGreat choice for ROTM. Never heard of him or his music but was pleasantly surprised. Also, reading about the history of his music gave me a deeper appreciation for it. Definitely a great addition to my collection!

anyone else receive this through VMP and had never heard of him? took a chance instead of swapping and was pleasantly surprised with the funk/jazzy/world music sound?
