Edited one month agoIncredible depth, detail and punch. This yellow vinyl pressing clearly bested my early UK (A4/B5/C3/D3) and the early US copy I have. Funeral/LLB also sounds much better here compared to the 12" that was released a few years later.

Edited 2 years agoHas anyone ever managed to find a copy of this without surface noise? I've tried four now, and all had noticeable crackle on the opener, and other quieter parts. Should I give up??

This pressing is equally as good as my 1st UK press and smokes every USA 1st press I have. Anyone want to buy a few US OGs?
-
Made a side-by-side comparison with an equally clean US copy (both in the NM- condition), and this copy definitely squashes the sound a bit. The other pressing had a far rounder sound with each instrument cutting through - especially the drums and bass. The yellow copy sounds nice, but it really couldn't compete on the overall soundstage - especially noticeable on The Ballad of Danny Beiley.

Edited one year agoThis is the best pressing that I own of GYBR, even though I own the Speakers Corner version, which is also very very good, but this 1978 reissue is superb and can probably only be sured by a first pressing (as is usually the case). This reissue is highly recommended by me and is now my "go to" copy. With respect to the yellow vinyl itself, please don't be put off by this - it does not hamper the sound quality in the slightest.
Update : I've had a rethink over my review and, while I still agree with myself to a certain extent, one thing that does seem to be lacking is the intro to Funeral For A Friend. When the ARP Synthesiser starts playing the dramatic chords, the overall sound should completely envelope the listener. With this version, it doesn't. I'm sure when I first listened to the original album in 1973/74 (which my older Brother had), this drama was in evidence. I don't know whether this 1978 repress was remastered, maybe this was the reason. I'm lucky enough to have the Speakers Corner version, and this is simply astounding, and the relevant drama is completely intact right from the start. However, apart from the aforementioned gripe, I can still confirm that the sound on this reissue is very very good and should still be considered, but do bear in mind my comments on Funeral For A Friend. -
My copy also has YELLOW - LIMITED EDITION etched on all four sides. Is it this one or a different one I can't see listed?
