Edited 2 years agoA worthy follow-up to her acclaimed masterpiece, "She's So Unusual", Cyndi Lauper absolutely brings it with this record.
Her lyrics and singing evoke a sense of maturity, evident of her first album's success. Here, a dazzling array of musical stars lend a hand In a subtle but big way.
Not many artists are brave enough to attempt a cover of Marvin Gaye's, "What's Going On", but Cyndi does and with excellent results. Brava!
The song "True Colors" is the centerpiece of this record. This song touches my heart in every way. How do you not hear this and well up with tears? Sheer brilliance. Cyndi, thank you for writing this song.
The mix is great and mastering quite decent. At times I feel her voice is not as far forward as it should be, but those are decisions made by the producer during mixing. If you ever weren't sure how Linn Drums contributed to '80s pop, just listen to every beat on this record. It's practically a Linn demo.
