Notes
Released as a Record Store Day 4/22/2017 exclusive.
It includes five exclusive Bowie prints.
Limited edition of 15000 copies worldwide.
In August 1971, David Bowie's manager, Tony Defries had 500 promo LPs pressed to secure Bowie and fellow Mainman artist Dana Gillespie a record deal. The promo album, featuring seven Bowie performances on one side and five by Gillespie on the flip is often referred to as the BOWPROMO white label album due to BOWPROMO being most of the matrix found in the runout space on the LP.
This release is a copy of the first side of that 1971 promo LP David Bowie / Dana Gillespie. From all published s it is a 'needle drop' copy of the 1971 LP and not taken from the original tapes.
Both cat# appear in label rim.
Sticker on shrink foil: DAVID BOWIE BOWPROMO.

Edited 7 years agoA few comments, the quality of the pressing is seriously good! Second, the exterior packaging really lets this release down. I would have expected much more, especially for the money. I appreciate they went for a minimalist look but it does nothing for me.

Just read this on Superdeluxeedition.com
"On a side note, any chance that you can get in touch with the people at Parlophone that sent you the promo copy of BOWPROMO and ask them whether they intend to make a statement on the faults regarding the release?
It runs slow adding several seconds to each track. The channels are reversed. The liner notes are incorrect and it’s been edited to trim the silence between two tracks. The last point is so trivial it seems pointless but given the fact that it’s a needledrop issued as a replica purely for hardcore fans, why would they do that?
If the new Sgt Pepper was released running slow with the channels reversed there would be uproar. When did it become okay to not give a toss about the quality of Bowie releases?"

I just listened to my copy of BOWPROMO and it sounds great which was my main concern. I was leery about them cramming 24 minutes of music on one side, but I guess because it's not a rocking LP they were able to get away with it. It's cool to have this on wax. I only paid about $35 Canadian for it so I'm not sweating the price too much. Do I think they should have put the Dana Gillespie songs on side two? Yes, I would have preferred that. Maybe they didn't have the source tapes for DG songs? I don't know what source was used to create this release, but I'm pretty happy to have it. It's a cool addition to my Bowie collection and I love the different vocals and mixes for these amazing songs.

Pretty fun if you are a Bowie fan. I enjoy the music and picking through the photos and the envelopes and the tissue paper... a recreation of a rare find. It works for me. These are the kind of releases that are right in my wheel house. Right next to my kitchy Doors London Fog release. Maybe it is an Epiphone instead of Gibson, I will take it. The version of Quicksand stands out.

Edited 8 years agoThe ultimate Parlophone rip off. They are taking us for mugs. Extorting every penny they can from Bowie fans when they should be protecting his catalogue rather than swamping the market with very poor releases such as this. Of course the original of this was a fascinating item and yes, we all would have liked it but to make this out to be a big deal boxed set priced at over £50 in most stores when it's in a generic, poor quality white box with a sticker with a few photos printed on average stock in a pointless envelope and a bit of tissue paper is shocking. The mastering and plates cost is reduced as it's one sided, (don't even get me started on why they didn't secure the rights to the Dana Gillespie B side and do this thing properly), and the sleeve is a single colour print. Very low price to produce, quite probably less than the Cracked Actor triple set (Now there's a fabulous release). There's no digital included (nor with Cracked Actor). This item is a disgrace and Parlophone should be ashamed. This set being Limited to 15,000 is a joke!! Laughing all the way to the bank. They're taking the piss.
