The Jesus Lizard – Goat

Killer pressing of a killer album. Surprisingly, Rainbo pulls thru on this one

I grew up with the 1991 Goat ("the best record of the 90s"), so when I put on the remaster I was dismayed. Instead of the gut punch of the original this is much less direct. Roomy and boomy, I miss the force, the shove and push of my Jesus Lizard. First I blamed my new player setup, but digging out the old copy confirmed it. It wasn't (just) the record player, it was old people losing the plot.
On the plus side, sure, better separation.

Sounds INCREDIBLE. Really spacious, with clear separation between the instruments, in a way my CD copy never was. Levels a little low but just crank it up. Amazing how good these guys were as instrumentalists. Mac's drums in particular sound great on this remaster. This pressing may have vaulted "Goat" above "Liar" in my personal JL canon.

Probably one of the better sounding picture discs I’ve heard. Nothing to complain about really.

Is this 180g remaster any different than the ‘09 120g (obviously other than vinyl weight) “remastered/reissue?”

monkey trick is fucking huge. so worth the low price.

One of the best rhythm sections in music remastered by Steve Albini and Bob Weston so you know it's going to sound f'ing amazing.

On the picture of Duane with a blue wall behind him you can see a setlist for an Unsane show. The show is definitely from the Chris/Pete/Vinny era though though when that show took place is anyone's guess.
