Edited 2 years agoThe last vinyl edition of this magnificent album was almost ten years ago, so a fresh reissue from Peaceville came in handy.
There is no need to speak once again about the audacity of the experiment and the novelty of Mysticum's views as of 1996. On the one hand, this is one of the first releases that mixed Black Metal and Industrial, and on the other hand, it still remains one of the best and benchmark of its kind. Mysticum are "True and Evil" and don't give a fuck. Perhaps it is here that the evil in music has acquired such an expressive "digital form". How many years have ed, and this music still carries a real threat.
As far as it was possible to understand the issue, the reissue differs from the previous one only in design. For this press, the original cover has been restored, also band-photos from the previous edition were partially reused for the design of the insert. Apparently here is the same remastered version as on the 2013 presses (and exactly the same track list with two bonuses). However, one way or another it sounds just fine, powerful, deep and attacking. Highly readable and detailed recording, the electronic drum machine is very voluminous. My copy was ordered new on the labels store and sounds spotlessly clean.
So it remains only to set the maximum volume, taste your dose of Black Magic Mushrooms and break away from the soul at this satanic disco. -
Edited 18 years agoOutstanding blistering black metal with an industrial edge, though the bulk of this comes from the band's utilization of a drum machine that purposefully sounds NOTHING like a live drummer. As well, some ambient/industrial sections are dispersed throughout, mainly found within the first and final tracks. The combination of these two factors gives this album a very unique sound rarely found in the multitude of carbon-copy bands that were pouring out of Scandinavia around this time.
After the "success" of this album within the metal underground, news began to circulate that Jan Axel Blomberg (aka Hellhammer) was being considered to take over the drumming responsibilities, but that the band decided against this as they would lose the edge that the drum machine gave them. This is a hilarious factoid when one considers how legendary Hellhammer is within the BM scene, and how he could be turned down when offering his services.
