The disc shown in the pic is a 70s reissue, not an original 1965 stereo.

Edited 8 months agoStrange that there is no Stereo version (1961 - US) listed. I thought that that was a primary reason for re-recording the bulk of these songs.

This is the finest Nat King compilation bar none. It is the first disc/s to go in my new Marantz SA12SE. I much prefer this to the vinyl version. The mastering is identical on both but the noise floor is gone with the Marantz and i dont have to worry about wear and tear, tics and pops, changing sides etc etc. I forgot just how good it is to put a CD on and this one is one of my finest in 000's.

As good as this is, it’s not a match for the corresponding vinyl edition. This gets you 90% of the way, but it’s no cigar. -
Edited 3 years agoThis is the album to find the original Calypso Blues as done by Sahib Shihab – Jazz t Vol. 2 "Companionship". This original is really pure – subtle natural echo from the recording studio on the conga. Just that and the voice.

Beg, borrow or starve yourself - this is worth every cent. There aren’t enough superlatives in the English language to describe the quality of this release. Quite possibly, the greatest thing ever pressed onto vinyl. Hoffman & Gray deserve a Grammy for their work. Great job by the Analogue Productions team as well. 11/10. -

I bought it two times new and must send it back, cause the quality of the Vinyls are not as promised.. wavy and radial runout.. Very sad, cause the sound is amazing. I buy now the SACD Version. Happy but the Vinyl Version would be preffered. -
