Notes

Originally issued in 1978 with two recordings, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra:
• Peter and the Wolf recording: Scottish Rite Cathedral, Philadelphia, October 8, 1975.
• Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra recording: Scottish Rite Cathedral, Philadelphia, March 27-28, 1974.
• Bowie overdubs on Peter and the Wolf: New York City, November 17 & 19, 1977.

Most releases between 1992 and 2013 inclusive compiled these two recordings with pieces from other periods in a variety of covers with several different names:
• Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite;
• Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals.

In 2014 there were some reissues that replicated the original 1978 album.

A golden treasure found in my grandparent’s collection, look like David Bowie as a really good voice, not only while singing but also while narrating. The orchestra did a really good job as well. I really love the transparent green vinyl, looks gorgeous.

It's a fun album because it's David Bowie. Ok, his narration isn't the most exciting or dramatic. But it's David f-cking Bowie. The fact he agreed to do this at all shows that he was a pretty fun guy, even though he was just getting out of one of his roughest personal periods. The music is exactly what you'd expect and sounds virtually similar to every other 1970s recording of Peter and the Wolf. No flash. Britten is the complementary piece here, and fits in just fine for it.
