This came at the top of my priority to listen to after hearing Dr. John's last album on which Dan Auerbach did the production. I liked their previous Brothers too, and seeing this have bigger critical acclaim gave me some good hopes. Does it live up to it? Yes mostly. It's nowhere near Dr. John's masterpiece in sound, so get that out of your head if you're walking to this expecting a funky t. It's just the Black Keys doing their thing, perhaps moving further away from the blues of their early career albums and just bringing some good catchy fuzzy riffs and rhythms. None of the songs are overly complex or groundbreaking, but it would be a lie to say that this isn't enjoyable as hell to listen. Keeping it simple is the key, but they never fail once to make a good song making this a damn good album. Funny that my son walked in this album telling me "I thought you didn't listen to music that played on the radio?". Ah well it happens I guess, I have nothing against music that I like being popular. -
This is a great box set, very well presented. The live records are my favorite discs to listen to from this, which are available in the normal deluxe version, but the photo book packed with pictures of vans is not and that’s pretty cool too if you’re into that kind of thing. Live records sound awesome, better than I expected. A+ stuff.

Got the white splatter version of this one too, but this black one is much quieter.
Highly recommended to get this one over the white version!
Great quality record.

Quality tested using an AT-ART9XI cartridge on a Technics sl-1200G turntable with SME V tonearm. -
Sounded good initially, but ultrasonic cleaning revealed a lot of surface noise.
Probably due to the white splatter pattern.
Got the black version too which is dead quiet.
Not recommended to get this one, get the black version instead.

Not many modern records are recorded, mixed and mastered this well. Everything about this 45 RPM edition is amazing.
Huge soundstage and great separation. Roaring bass, crisp drums and crunchy guitar. Vocal is clear and upfront. Superior to what’s on streaming services. The dynamic range is preserved instead of it being brickwalled.
Glad to have this in my collection! -
Edited one year agoThis 2LP 45 RPM edition of El Camino has a fantastic sound. What a great pressing by Pallas !

What a great pressing. Lined inner sleeves. Absolutely flat an silent. Very nice cover and booklet. And a very nice and positive surprise: 140g.
Give me more of that perfection! :)
