The Incredible Jimmy Smith* – Midnight Special

Plays clean. Flat. Great music. But!… Amazon sucks… was sent with no protection in a large box and so jacket is bent all over. More disturbing is that there was no inner sleeve at all… just the wax hanging out in a beat up cheap cardboard jacket.

Great pressing. My copy has a few marks on it, and therefore it has a few pops in it.
The record used to be at a radio station, and the label is marked up as well. I would love to know what station it was played at? The label reads "BUBB" hand written on both sides. On Side A there's a '#57' written on it and a yellow label with a printed black 7 stuck to it. Let me know if you recognize it or what radio station it's from?
Smith is at his soulful best. Turrentine and Burrell shine. B3 One O'Clock Jump is fantatsic example for all 3 of them.

I got a super quiet copy from amazon, sounds great.

Groooooovy, oh yeah this record is bluesy and groovy at the same time. Stanley's sax jumps out of the left channel. Clean, flat and very clean pressing. Jimmy is burnin', his organ sounds very tender and magestic ! Great sound quality all around. And Kenny Burrell is also present, what else can you get?! Highly recommended all analogue reissue ;)

Good mastering. Vinyl pressed without care. Bernie did some good work but the US plant presents you snaps crackles, pops and rips. There is enough on the first track alone to make me reject a double LP set in its entirety. Hopefully the BN Classic version is better and i get to grab one soon

Excellent laid back session in which Smith plays more subtly and tastefully than he sometimes does on other dates.
Most of the tracks are taken at a slight simmer and the sax of Stanley Turrentine probably benefits the most in this new reissue - it sounds fantastic.
Great late night jazz to chill to.
As for the vinyl, my copy was perfect - no defects or surface noise at all. A winner for the Blue Note Classic Series.

Has anyone compared this to the 2015 Bernie Grundman 75th Anv cut and if so how do they differ?

As always Classic Series make us to enjoy to Jazz. My copy is pressed in and sounds perfect. This one, "Home Cookin" and "The Sermon" are the best albums in my opinion from Mr. Smith in Blue Note.

I'm not really a fan of organ music but this one pulls me in. Great music, great pressing and all that with a reasonable price tag.

Love this record! Great musically and it sounds fantastic as the classic series usually does.
