AFI – The Art Of Drowning

I just got this version today (2/2025) for a great price. However this says it’s in limited edition grey marble. I opened it up and it was just the normal black version. Wondering if anyone had this happen to them. Also, mine did come with an insert.

For those suggesting "Initiation" (A1) sounds compressed, just listen to any digital copy and it sounds the same. The Guitar lead in sounds super clear and then the track rolls into a 'pulled-back' louder moment for what I can only imagine is a production choice made for some stylistic reason. There is nothing particularly "wrong" with the sound, and it's part of any recording of this album I've heard. This is a SOLID pressing of this album and really impressed me. I grew up with this album on cd, but sadly lost it through the years. Really happy to have a copy and this one sounds superb, though my copy is a little off-center.

My whacky aunt recently gave me this cuz she “just had it laying around since it came out” I guess it was an impulse buy 24 years ago and somehow through all kinds of wild shit in her life she still held onto this. Besides being dirty as shit from sitting in a paper sleeve with no outer sleeve cover protection, this thing is immaculate! Classic album, sounds great! This color is disgraceful! lol

I cant wait for the 25th Anniversary pressing in 2025!!

There appears to be a new version of this pressing floating around that has an insert. Anybody able to find one?

i was not at all expecting this to sound great by any means, and yet…

despite being quite a bit of music to squeeze onto a single LP, it sounds really nice to my ears with no surface noise to speak of. of course the colorway for this record’s also fantastic. my purple’s a little more muted/swirled through out than anything else, but damn does it look awesome. a surprising 5/5 from me on this release. my only irk is the complete lack of any insert.. lazylazylazy.

edit: spoke too soon! “6 to 8” has intermittent crackles for the first couple minutes.. damn, of all songs, it’s a “slower” one. between that and there not being an insert, i’ll go with a 4/5.

First AFI album I fell in love with, and very happy to have this on vinyl. Sounds great, and the grey marble looks nice as well.

Limited to 300, but over 800 have it in their collections. LOL.

Too many songs crammed on side 1. Really hurts the quality near the end of side 1. Decent pressing otherwise. No insert. Labels kinda generic.

Really good pressing! For some reason Initiation sounds horribly compressed and flat but everything else sounds great! lots of punch and lots of depth to this one. This doesn’t have the hidden track but there is Dream Of Waking which is only on the vinyl version of this album, I was expecting it to be filler but it’s actually a great song! Really threw me off guard my first time spinning my vinyl copy but it’s awesome! Definitly reccomend this pressing!
