Joy Division – Komakino

Used to drive by the old Eva-Tone Factory quite often back in the day! Definitely their number one release here, I think Vinyl Fever in Tampa used to give these out to anybody that asked! Number two on the flexi hit parade: "songs of the humpback whales"... never been able to get a copy of the "Straight talk about Herpes" flexi though...

By some margin the most common Joy Division "rarity" .

Classic Joy Division. Would be very happy if this was reissued as a 12”. Could be a RSD contender. Id buy one straight away.

I have one flexi I bought from London in the 90s without as you said, does anybody know which version is it?

I "bought" mine by sending postage (I think it was like 85 cents -- I must have wrote a check) to Rough Trade in S.F., Ca. They must have ran an ad in a paper, perhaps Goldmine or Record Collector? It wasn't more than a year or two after its release. ..also I have a vague memory of seeing it for sale in Bleeker Bob's in NYC -- for like ten bucks, before the Rough Trade ad appeared, and saved the day for me!

I was told that Factory used to post these out stapled to letterheads. Right through the grooves, just for giggles.

In 1984 or so, I asked the clerk at VVV records in Dallas if he had ever seen this JD flexi that I'd heard about. The clerk, later known as MC 900 Foot Jesus, said "You know I saw one of those in the back that we never gave away", and he gave it to me!
"This is a free soundsheet", indeed!
Fantastic music, of course. Komakino ranks up there with Joy Division's best.

Fantastic audio quality- especially for a flexi disc. words words

Funny seeing 39 sales of a record showing *This record should not have cost you anything, wherever or however it was obtained." on b-side label... Cruel world :-)

Picked up a New Order - Ceremony (FAC33) 7", which looks unplayed at a record swap and found this flexi inside. Wonder if it was ever packaged with FAC33. Both look totally unplayed.
