Notes
Tentatively planned as a follow-up to Welcome 2 America tour (which ran from December 2010 to May 2011) but abandoned for unknown reasons.
Prince himself published only the songs '89.3 The Current's website on June 7th 2010 / Prince’s 52nd birthday) and 'Same Page, Different Book' (streamed as audio over a static video on the 3rd Eye Girl YouTube channel on January 6th 2013).
Ten years after the abandonment of the 'Welcome 2 America' album, the Prince Estate released what’s believed to be the final configuration.
It should be mentioned that different versions of 'When She Comes' and '1000 Light Years From Here' (the last 3:05 minutes of 'Black Muse') are initially released on the final studio album released prior to his death HITNRUN Phase Two.
On April 8th 2021, the first single (Welcome 2 America) was made available for as a preview of this release. A physical edition was released simultaneously with the album.
The performance on the Blu-Ray was previously bootlegged on LA Diaries (audio only).
The German 'Rolling Stone' magazine issued a cover-mount 7" vinyl single of 'Hot Summer' backed with a live recording of 'The Bird' (taken from the deluxe editions Blu-Ray).

Excelente álbum, desconocido al menos para mí, pero ha sido una grata sorpresa. Muy buen sonido y prensado.

The soundstage is perfect on this record. Great pressing and everything is very well defined. No surface noise at all. -

A shame about the obvious CDr sourced tracks. CDr fluttering (caused by disc degradation) is quite annoying. Spoils an otherwise interesting album. Hopefully the Estate have backed up anything else they found on CDr because these things simply do not last. -
what an awesome album... was a bit skeptical of purchasing it but the quality is outstanding! every song is right on the money... pressing is very quiet little background noise. highly recommended

Edited one year ago2nd Album Revolution #13:
As the works of the famous "Prince Vault" continues to be unearthed, the "Prince Estate" released "Prince's" unreleased treasure in "Welcome 2 America"...This makes much more sense to me now, because I the tour "Prince" had in 2010 with the same name...
With this release though, the estate got smart and at least had a person close to "Prince" to help out with it's release...That privilege went to keyboardist "Mr. (Morris) Hayes", and he did a pretty good job...
The "NPG" on the album along with "Mr. Hayes" is, "Tal Wilkenfeld" (Bass), "John Blackwell" (Drums), "Chris Coleman" (Drums also), and "Elisa Fiorillo", "Liv Warfield", & "Shelby J" (Vocals).....
It's rare for me to consider opening songs as Crown Jewels, but on this one, the first 3 songs are just THAT!!!
The opening "Title Track", really talks about the state of the country, as "Prince" had no intentions of holding back...
"Running Game (Son Of A Slave Master)", was an never ending way for "Prince'" to continue to warn artist about the problems of the "Music Business"....
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE on here in "Born 2 Die" is a straight up MASTERPIECE!!!!!! The music backdrop on this one was sooooo good, and it went perfectly with the story about a young Lady who's life that was way too HEAVY!!!!
The other great songs worth mentioning are "1000 Light Years From Here", "Check The Record", "Same Page, Different Book", "When She Comes" (even though the moaning is very annoying and unnecessary!!!!), "1010 (Rin Tin Tin)" (very Funky!!!!!), and the final t in "One Day We Will All B Free"....
The one thing that irks my NERVES is, that on the Vinyl, Record 2, the 2nd side is phased out with a picture of "Prince"....Now, don't get me wrong, it's cool and all, but I would have preferred a live track or 2 from the "Welcome 2 America" tour, like the live version of "17 Days"...
Oh, well, no matter...
I seriously wonder why "Prince" shelved this one!!! Even though he has done this countless times (which is why he had "The Vault"), in my opinion, this one didn't deserve to be!!!!! Out of all the unreleased material that the "Prince Estate" released, this is the very best one...This is also the last one at this point, but I won't stop the 2nd Album Revolution until I see what happens...
But honestly, if you haven't got this one yet, you are truly MISSING OUT!!!!!!!! -
Outstanding Deluxe Box Set. The countless bonus goodies are cute but I probably won't look at most of them again anytime soon. Love the booklet but wish it were presented like the 'Sign o The Times' book. Concert Blu-Ray is top notch but I'll really appreciate it after getting my new TV. Bonus CD is nice. I love how the Blu-ray & CD are stored in protective pockets....This is how the 'Sign o The Times' CD/DVD set should've been presented. NOW, as for the vinyl, I am very pleased. The 180 gram LPs are flat, sound great with perfect audio dynamics and almost zero surface noise....Quiet. With all the money spent on this huge Deluxe Box, it would've been perfect if the vinyl was gold colored, NOT black. Oh well, I do appreciate the anti static poly lined sleeves the 2 albums are stored in. In closing, this is a nice follow up to the '20Ten' project. The Prince Estate did a great job with this Deluxe Box. 4.5 stars!

Edited 3 years agoFirst of all, technically speaking, the vinyl I got in this package is PERFECTLY produced. Bernie Grundman as per usual, yes, but exceptionally so, even for his caliber. The pressing is flawless. Not a stray speck of cruft anywhere. The noise floor is ... not present? Vanished! A review of the spectrograph from a lossless transfer to digital reveals a wide band of dynamics and (with only two completely forgivable places) no clipping or flattened peaks. The stereo separation and soundstage presentation are crisp and balanced to a very fine point.
As for the Work, Prince had a clear vision here. This is the work of a mature and deeply educated musical artist. He pays frighteningly accurate homage to those who came before him on a few tracks, but even on those this is still definitely Prince. The title track is a political statement as clear as Sign O The Times. The last track is an aching, longing, wish and dream. For me, the jewel on this album is 1000 Light Years, an afrofuturistic promise that the work will all be worth it, some day, some where.
This is not Prince's greatest album, but it is probably in the top 10 of his most important just for how DIFFERENT it is from everything else he's created for us. -
Not a bad package. The ephemera is whatever. I wouldn't pay $100 but $30 PopMarket close out? I'll bite! Has some really good music on it. Not top tier Prince but still quite enjoyable.
