I'm not saying anything radical in comparison to other reviews, but my impression of this record is that the SQ and Ryan Smith's mastering job are superb. Beautiful presence of the instruments and Waylon's voice, great dynamics, and a really wide soundstage. It all sounds so natural and alive. The cover is nicely done, too. I can confirm that the pressing is not entirely quiet, and I noticed some pop and crackle mainly on side 2 (especially on quieter ages). Whether this bothers you is subjective I guess, but it's the only flaw in this reissue to me. Enough to give 4 stars instead of 5. -

This pressing is on the Green RCA international label sounds fine -
Audiophile country! Man, this original pressing sounds incredible. Even if you have a VMP reissue, find a clean copy of this first pressing and compare for yourself. It sounds better than any reissue I’ve heard on vinyl or Hi Res. The bass, the separation, the soundstage, the vocals - incredible. -
This 24-bit 96kHz remaster, coming 49 years after its debut, sounds awesome. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. The soundstage is very wide, and the vocals and instruments are located with laser precision. I found myself turning the volume louder and louder, as there's no reason not to. If you could play the master tape at home any time you wanted this is likely what you'd hear. -

Occasional pops or ticks on this album will only add to the ambience and experience. Like a crackling camp fire on the range. -

Record isn't flat, and after an ultrasonic cleaning, my copy has the classic GZ surface noise / low level crackling. It's a real shame because everything else sounds incredible. -

Slight surface noise, but nothing I can’t get past.
The rhythm section on this album sounds incredible. The bounce of the bass, the snap of the snare…this is some great recording/mastering.
