There's not really much else that needs to be said, everyone below has already said everything, but upon reading, I don't understand why people don't really like CD 3. It's the best disc! That opening M People remix, "Little Bullet", the absolute monster "Sublime", "Solar Plexus", one of the foundational texts of trance music ("Age of Love") and closing off with "Dirty", one of the finest closers of all time! How could people not like this one, other at least not as much as the other two?

Geoff Oakes, the founder of Renaissance label described how this mix came to be back in 1994:
"SO… there were a few compilation series’ around at the time( JDJ, Ministry, etc. Mostly single CDs in a plastic jewel case.
When Network Records approached me to do the album I said it had to reflect the sound and values of the club. So the packaging and artwork detail was really a first at that time, insanely expensive but the record label were amazing in their belief in the concept. The music was a total snapshot of venue 44, renaissance’s original home, with Sasha, John and I going back and forth for ages on the tracklist and specific segues (some of which were taken from a recording of the Renaissance 1st birthday the year before). The breadth of music Sasha and John were able to select from was limitless. Track selection on this scale had never been done before, shelf-life of tracks was much longer and because of the absence of social media the memories of those tracks were intrinsically linked to the dance floor of Renaissance for so many people.
We quickly realised it had to be a triple CD because we had so much music we just HAD to include. By the time we released Mix Collection 2 there were dozens of imitators/competitors that entered the market because of this album’s success. It became the first ever gold-selling mix compilation in the UK. JDJ and Ministry were selling around 10k units per release I think. We sold 40k in week 1. This was unheard of and a total shock to us all. It went on to sell over 200k units worldwide. One indication of how influential it was… I was speaking, a decade later, to the label manager at Ministry when this was released. She told me she walked into the label meeting the day after our release, threw the album on the desk and said ‘THIS is what we should be doing’. I guess it played a huge part in the growth of progressive house globally.
The music, packaging and artwork resonated worldwide and also kick-started a highly prolific period of global touring for Renaissance. I started getting enquiries from all over the world about replicating the sound and aesthetics of the album and at Renaisance’s peak I was staging over 100 events per year in more than 30 countries. That touring concept was also soon replicated by our competitors. So it wasn’t just influential as an album, it opened the doors for uk club brands to tour the world. There may well be better mixes out there but this was a ground breaking moment in electronic music history." -

Edited one year agoI went to Renaissance many a time and saw them both, the CD brings back all the memories!
I never knew the sleeve was a limited thing, good thing i never chucked it! -
I still have my original copy - paid £23.99 in Our Price back when it came out! Nostalgia and memories in abundancy for me! I had been to the closing party of Renaissance in Pacha in September that year, left the White Isle and when back in England, grabbed this - great times!

Edited one year agoThe good bits are great, but there's some serious shite on here too. That Kym Mazelle track, Child Bride, She Holds The Key and the 2 M People tracks are fucking awful. I love all of the Italian Hard House tracks, the Fluke stuff and most of CD3.

Edited one year ago… just dropped into check
Yep. It’s still the greatest mix album ever, bar none. No argument. Good stuff. Legacy intact. No arguments. Round up any contrarians and throw them in a hole.
I’ll be back to check in another decade
( don’t listen to him, one up 🔝⬆️ 😆 )
