Rick James – Street Songs

Rick James and his music is so valued, this album is spectacular, in the credits for the album, it lists, 'Hitsville' and that is what this album is.

With the announcement of the incoming MoFi edition i pulled this out to re-evaluate it in preparation to hear if theres anything i think the MoFi should hope to improve on it. I jist sat and enyoyed this classic slice of funky disco soul from start to finish and everything about this press impresses.... the appropriately red vinyl, is pressed flat and quietly (Record Industry standard tbh) and the sound is fresh and crisp. If MoFi indeed get the original master tape and its in great shape and knowing its going to be cut at 45rpm theres no reason this cant be improved upon for bass extension, soundstage and dynamics. These are typical traits of cutting at 45rpm vs 33 but i would hope for a smoother richer and more natural presentation too. This pressing does the business and sounds bloody good but there is always the yearning for MORE and thats the name of this game along with human nature itself!

My copy recently bought from US Amazon isn’t listed here yet, but sounds and plays excellent. If you’re looking for an excellent sounding pressing for around $25, get it.

This 24-bit 96-kHz remaster, essentially serving as a 50 (!) year anniversary release, sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. The soundstage is very wide and deep, making speakers nearly disappear. The sound can be as smooth as glass or as sharp as a razor, as the music dictates. There's some strong bass lines but they're well defined and not bloated. Excellent

I'd always regretted not picking up one of the copies of this red-vinyl variant that HMV Newcastle had in its racks for a certain period of time for £13.99 (if memory serves) in 2019. It's nice to have now corrected that "historic" collecting error of mine, for a nice price (a bit higher than £13.99, but hey, inflation for everything has been crazy since then, LOL). Looks and sounds beautiful.

The ONLY F'n US pressing that actually matches the frigg'n deadwax out of all his albums. GEEZ...!

I adore this album, however, the "Cold Blooded"(1983) & "Glow" (1985) albums are musically on par with this one, they just didn't cross over into top 40, but then again, Rick was a r & b/funk artist, not really a pop artist, regardless of "Street Songs" crossing over at the time.

Because this is a digitally mastered cd release, is the sound any good? Hoping mobile fidelity sound lab can do an SACD on this

Does this cd include any pre emphasis? Word word word
