Brief history:
1947: Founded by Dr. Guy Johnson as East African Sound Studios Ltd., also operating a recording studio in Nairobi; label name: Jambo.
1951: Company is taken over by Africa Ground Cotton Company (Afcot Ltd.).
1952: East African Records Ltd., now led by Otto Larsen, opens a shellac pressing plant in Nairobi.
1955: New recording studio opened.
1963: The label and recording studio are transferred to label Equator Sound, while E. A. Records, now a vinyl pressing plant only, is sold to Phonogram (PolyGram).
