Yorkshire Television

Profile:

British television station founded in 1967 to provide programmes 7 days a week to West and South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and surrounding areas, taking over from the prior arrangement of Granada Television during the week, and ABC Weekend Television. Overlapping transmission areas led to a merger with Tyne Tees television under the holding company Trident, but this was later undone. Yorkshire Television later acquired Tyne Tees television, and was then itself acquired by Granada Television. It is now, as ITV Yorkshire, a wholly owned subsidiary of ITV Broadcasting Limited, part of ITV plc, holding the Yorkshire franchise for the ITV network.
