M.E.L.T. 2000 evolved from the structure of Robert Trunz (the ex-chairman of the B&W Loudspeaker company).

In April 2002, M.E.L.T. 2000 went into voluntary liquidation. Mr. Trunz bought back the rights to the catalogue in December 2004, with the rights being now owned by Sound Reproductions Limited in Jersey and istered through the South African company Melt Music Phase Two cc.

An acronym for Musical Energy & Loud Truth beyond 2000, the label has stopped releasing new World Music and Jazz recordings from the African continent and concentrates on its own back catalogue.
