Does any really believe all of these "played once & stored away" descriptions? I certainly don't & think a lot of people are full of it. -

Unlike a used car, where the description says "One elderly lady owner since new" and you can actually that, there is no way of telling with vinyl.
As always, just go by the sellers .
For what it's worth, I've used a very similar description in the past. Because it was actually true. -

I only use it when, as Jarren says, it's true. 75+%% of my CD collection was treated that way, and now that I'm selling them I tell it like it is.... -

75+%% of my CD collection was treated that way,
Exactly. Any CD I've bought over the past 20 years was "played" once (as in, I ripped the files), then put back on the shelf. -

I have more than a few on my shelves that I played once and haven't touched since.
I should probably sell them. -

I have scores of LPs and 45s that I can personally vouch for as being only played once (even just partially) or opened but unplayed and, typically, with outer shrink still attached. The latter I am comfortable with grading the vinyl mint and the sleeve M- because I am certain of their provenance and can trace the lineage. Some I purchased brand new, others I received unsolicited directly from the artist or label, largesse due to me being a record store manager and music journalist for many years but never had the chance to play. But I always took care of them and bagged many of them from day 1. Okay, break out the pitchforks and torches, ‘oggers, I’m perched right over here on my high horse, staring at my original sealed copy of Led Zep IV… -

Are we to believe you as you also use it. Just asking. -

I always see that as a red flag. Always.
As already mentioned, there's no way to prove it, so why even say that? You're probably losing more customers than anything. -

Most long-time collectors I know will it to having a bunch of records they bought new and played only once or twice (or never). It's called completism and is remarkably commonplace. -

When listing a record I write as little as I have to, if that. And when I write “played once” that’s what I mean and I don’t mean anything else. -

I have LP's that have been played once, or in some instances 2 or 3 times. Others have never been opened.
Who cares anyway. I'm not selling and no one's going to believe me if I was. LOL. -

I have lots of records that have only been played once, they just didn't grab me at the time and were then filed away and forgotten about. In some cases, many years later, I've re-discovered them while browsing through the collection and I've given them another go and in a few cases I really liked them, perhaps my tastes had changed slightly in the intervening time or I maybe I just didn't give the record a fair go in the first place.
That's probably why I don't sell records unless I have more than one copy. Of course there's been records where I gave them a second go and still thought that they were sh*te but there are many more on my racks that have been "played once & stored away" that are waiting their second turn. -

Pretty paranoid to think every seller who states a record has only been played once is lying. It's not like it's some huge selling point, it's just an indication that it's in good shape and that the (probably) high grade is accurate. -

Some sellers might have played vinyl twice and forgot the last spin -

Hi, i was a collector of Vinyl and CD over the years. Much items i've really heard one or two times, some LPs are never played, they are only opened for a code or a CD. So its true when i write played only one time or a few times or never played.
Often i buy a LP and a CD only to have them but i never heard them. It's crazy i know but that's what i do over the years. Now i'm a little bit older and i sell a part of my great collection and you see much items with the comment played only one time etc. and be sure, that's true. -

How often it's been played isn't important.
Only the grading is important.
Have multiple items in my collection that have only been played once but are Good at best
Many items that have never been played are just VG+ -

I have many, many records purchased new back when I bought anything and everything, and I can say with no doubt that quite a few were played only once. I'm now unloading all of those impulse buys and that's why my table at record shows is very popular.
Also, how hilarious is it that Cahgoonis has used the same description and apparently forgotten? What a world. -

One very possible interpretation is "the music is indeed that bad".

Point well taken, cooterlee. You're obviously referring to the QOTSA & Storm records I've got for sale. As Blackpapercrown stated "The music is indeed that bad" on both of those. I suppose my hypocrisy has no boundaries. You wanna buy them? -

I`ve literally been selling albums that I`ve bought, played through once and didn`t like, hence the reason for selling them.
So yes, some of us are actually putting legitimate descriptions on what we are selling.
