Ian Meldrum

Real Name:

Ian Alexander Meldrum

Profile:

Ian Meldrum, more generally known by his nickname Molly Meldrum (born January 29, 1946 in Orbost, Victoria) is an Australian popular music critic, journalist, record producer, and musical entrepreneur, best known as talent co-ordinator, on-air interviewer and music news presenter on the popular music program Countdown which ran on Australian TV from 1974 to 1987

Widely recognised for his trademark Akubra hat, which he has regularly worn in public since the 1970s, Meldrum has become an icon in the Australian music industry as much for his ceaseless championing of Australian talent, for his very catholic tastes - as likely to actively champion The Cure - and his ability not to take himself too seriously and take a joke at his own expense.
