Karl Schick

Profile:

German mastering, lacquer cutting and DMM engineer.

Worked in TELDEC-Studio, Hamburg between 1957 and 1984, mainly cutting 7" singles. Between 1969 and 1984, he operated cutting room 2 ("Überspielung 2").
Occasionally, he also worked at Teldec-Studio, Berlin.
After the mastering was terminated in Hamburg in mid 1984, Schick worked at Teldec-Press GmbH in Nortorf.

His lacquer cuts until 1981 can be identified as follows:
Records with Roman numeral II ("S-II" or "S-II" or "S-II-H" or "S-H-II"), where the H stands for Hamburg and the Roman numeral for the cutting lathe and later for cutting room 2.
Records with Roman numerals III or IV and H (e.g. S-H-III or S-IV-H), where the H stands for Hamburg and the Roman numeral for the cutting lathe.

His DMM cuts in Hamburg between 1982 and 1984 can be identified by hand-etched "DMM S-II" or "S-II" (always with Roman numeral II) in the runouts. All his cuts after 1981 were DMM, even when DMM is missing in the runouts.

Important notes to distinguish his cuts from
1.) Gerhard Schulze (until 1979): when the hand-etched "S" appears with Roman numeral I (e.g. S-I, S-I-H), please credit Gerhard Schulze
2) Sonopress stampers: do not confuse with "S II" etc. found on Sonopress pressings (e.g. 204184 A-1/82 S II or DMM B-2261 A-2/85 S II)
When in doubt, please ask in the runout forum.

Karl Schick died 1988.
