Al Green – Al Green Gets Next To You

This is a great pressing of the album. Nice sound even when it appears VG. It sounds more VG+. Pick one up and you won't be disappointed.

Mostly an excellent pressing with some caveats....

The bad = theres no avoiding the surface noise inherent to this cut from beginning to end. Fresh out the sleeve and given a full ultrasonic clean it still plays with a light crackle not unlike an old used record but jist not quite as loud. Also there is some visible non fills at the very end of side two and they are audible but not excessively so.

The good = its mastered very well! Fresh, crisp and tape warts and all which is what i want. Too many recent Al Green presses are rolled off and muffled to hell. Also its cut loud enough that the vinyl noise floor issues are minimised and simply dont spoil the listening which is a relief. I also noted my copy is flat as can be and looks pretty darn cool when on the spin! Finally the jacket is gloss and thick almost tip on-esque which also really sets this pressing apart.

Conclusion = a great sounding pressing on a noisier than usual compound which thanks to the age and style of recording gets away with said noise to remain an EXCELLENT reissue well worth seeking out!

A truly superb pressing. The actual vinyl is Pallas perfection. Not a single mark, hairline, blemish or sign of groove defect and it results in nigh silence of playback. Its basically as good as it can ever get. Not unusual for Pallas tbf.

This has never been an audiophile demo worthy recording and while id concur that Tired of Being Alone is simply abit rougher than most rest of the album (as it is on every version ive heard) it doesnt sound broken and on the whole this seems decently mastered to me. With the quiet vinyl its a fine listen of a great album!

I also compared this with the VMP splattered vinyl edition which is mastered very similarly but the VMP had unpleasantly noisier and non filled grooves, at least far too much for my liking.

Fabulous release. Sounds so good.

Just listened to my copy and there is no issue with Tired of Being Alone. I do not hear a hiss, maybe just air blowing (it is more noticeable when I turn the volume up high). There may be a slight muffling but nothing too bad (IMO). I listen on Fluance RT-85. Overall I am happy with this pressing

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with issues on Tired of Being Alone. Had I known about it, I would have just sought out a vintage press.

I would like to echo aledif71 that I have no issues whatsoever with distancing on this pressing. I find the whole thing to be a fantastic and engaging pressing of a record that deserves nothing less. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I'm listening to my copy now and, regarding Tired of Being Alone, either this has been fixed or it was never as "distracting" as it's been described in the first place.
I would suggest buying the album from someone who accepts returns, just in case, but I for one am as happy as a ram :)
